Hi! My name is Angela Sugden, I am originally from Howe, ID.
I graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelors degree in
Psychology and a minor in History. I went to on to Montana State
University for graduate school and received my Masters in Education
specializing in School Counseling. I also recieved a CACREP accred-
itation for completing 18 credits in ethics while finishing my program.
This is my 12th year living in beautiful Challis, Idaho as the Jr. /Sr. High
School Counselor. I work with students in a variety of ways, mostly to help
them navigate their adolescent years in jr. high and high school as it can
be tumultuous at times. I am the gatekeeper of Jr. High completion
requirements for the 7th and 8th grade and graduation requirements for high
school students.
I try to empower students to take an active role in the completion of their
requirements by enhancing their class choices with the career path they
have chosen. Some of the tools we use for this is a four- year plan, the
Advanced Opportunities Initiative and Nextsteps in order to accomplish a
student's educational and career plans among other interventions. I oversee
the student-driven Sources of Strength program that replaced the Natural
Helpers program as it is considered best practices and focuses on fostering resilience
in our students. I am part of a Safe and Drug Free School Committee that tries to
bring in quality speakers to; educate students ,teachers and parents about drug
and alcohol awareness, anti-bullying education, social and emotional intelligence
and cyber safety. We do this and more training for staff when funds are available.
I handle some of the testing at our school such as:PSAT, ACT, SAT,  ASVAB and
college placement testing when available. I am a coordinator for Idaho Digital
Learning Alliance classes and handle the Advanced Opportunities portal for our school.
I am one of the senior class advisors where I help seniors with college applications,
scholarships, choosing a college and the general ebbs and flows it takes to help
a student through to their lives and aspirations outside of Challis. We are in the
process of doing some jr. high girls groups and we see the need for students
to enhance their self-esteem as well as process through feelings and emotions.
I see students on a regular basis helping them through their, academic,
personal/social and career development while in high school and jr. high school.
