Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that Challis Elementary School has been selected to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) for the 25-26 school year!
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program is a federally assisted initiative that provides all students in participating elementary schools with a variety of free, fresh fruits and vegetables during the school day. This program is designed to create healthier school environments by expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience, increasing their overall consumption, and positively influencing their lifelong eating habits.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Who benefits? All students at Challis Elementary will be offered a fresh fruit or vegetable snack 3 days each week, at no cost to families.
- When and how? The snacks will be provided outside of regular breakfast and lunch times, typically during afternoon classroom breaks.
- What’s included? A wide variety of fresh produce will be offered—some familiar favorites and others your child may be trying for the first time!
We encourage you to talk with your child about the fruits and vegetables they try at school. Ask them what they liked or didn’t like, and consider adding new produce to meals at home. This is a great opportunity for students to explore healthy food options and develop positive habits that can last a lifetime.
If you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact Christina Hoyt, Child Nutrition Director at (208) 879-2255 or hoytchris@d181.k12.id.us
Thank you for supporting our efforts to promote health and wellness at Challis Elementary.
Sincerely,
