Mrs. Lani Rembelski
Welcome to Challis School District #181. I am grateful and honored to be your Superintendent. I recognize that quality public education happens when students, parents, staff and community work collaboratively to create learning environments where everyone feels safe, challenged and thrives toward success.
Challis School District is the heart of our small, rural community located in Custer County. The foundation of success in the schools is built on several principles:
- Our ability to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students to grow and develop.
- Incorporating quality programs with innovative teaching strategies to develop 21st century skills that will serve the primary needs of the community.
- To implement cost effective strategies to ensure fiscal responsibility.
I believe it is important for the community to know who I am and why I value education. I was born and raised in Challis, Idaho. I have a great love for this community and the success of our schools. My husband, Steve and I had the opportunity to move back to Challis the summer of 2006 and we took it in a heartbeat. It enabled our three children to be raised with their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in their lives. Family and this small community are very important to me. Our children have attended Challis Elementary and Challis Jr. Sr. High School with our oldest graduating in 2018.
I have been in public education for over twenty years as a classroom teacher, principal and now superintendent. My grandparents instilled the importance of education at a very early age. My father was a Jr. Sr. High School teacher and coach, who I have always looked up to. I attended Idaho State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Reading, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I earned my Master of Science degree from Western Governors University in Educational Leadership. I completed my Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership: Superintendent from Northwest Nazarene University.
As Superintendent of Challis School District my mission is to ensure each student is challenged daily in a safe and nurturing environment. Also, the staff has the opportunity to grow and develop in their educational pursuits. I want the culture to be abundant in community, rich in rigor, and to provide students with the skills and characteristics needed to follow the opportunities of their choice after high school graduation.
Together with the community, we will continue to provide quality learning opportunities for all of our students in an environment that exemplifies kindness, perseverance, grit and hope for the future.
